a walk of art

The Beacon, a large late Victorian house in one acre of grounds situated on the West Hill of Hastings, is a hub of creative activity, owned, lived in and managed by Judy Dewsbery.

On the lower floor of the main house are two large rooms that are used for a variety of purposes including drawing, life drawing, painting classes, yoga, qi gong, creative workshops and much more.

These rooms are for hire for creative activities.

walk of art

"A Walk of Art" is a non-profit making, limited liability company set up to repair and restore the historic route from the old town of Hastings to the valley containing the current town centre of Hastings.

A Walk of Art Ltd has been formed to reclaim and repair this pedestrian trail of twittens, open paths and steep steps and to the celebrate the heritage and culture of Hastings on the way.

To achieve this A Walk of Art has to first raise funds for the repair of a failing retaining wall that supports part of the trail. Neither the wall nor the track above it is owned, which seriously complicates matters! The Beacon has rights of way over the problem area.

The historic route (see map of 1755) as a track between fields) joins the seafront in the Old Town of Hastings to the valley  containing the current town centre.

There is a rolling programme of fund-raising events (see events page), and so far £2783 has been raised, which has allowed us to have exporatory bore holes done. The next stage is to apply for major funding.
